The feature film project We Are Still Screaming, written and directed by August Adrian Braatz, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival on 17 May. The project is produced by Bela Film, with Ida Weiss as producer, and has received support from the Slovenian Film Centre for screenplay development.
The presentation in Cannes featured this year’s selected projects from the international Full Circle Lab Nouvelle-Aquitaine Hessen programme and Slovenia Next Wave Genre Lab. Alongside We Are Still Screaming, the Slovenian project Forbidden Fruit, written and directed by Urška Djukić Lecamus and produced by Oink, was also presented. According to the organisers, the high quality of submissions made the selection particularly difficult. Both Slovenian projects stood out for their potential for further development.
We Are Still Screaming is a tragicomic road movie about a brother and sister trying to find their way back to each other after years of growing apart. Thirty-year-old Kristian leads a predictable life until he suddenly takes his unruly younger sister Lana on a trip to Germany. Their journey soon becomes a series of unexpected encounters, arguments and fragile moments of closeness. As they try to reconnect, the past they are both running from begins to catch up with them.
Director August Adrian Braatz describes the film as an emotionally honest story about family, failure and the stubborn human need to keep going. At its centre are two very different people who, despite everything, are trying to understand each other and find their place in the world.
Full Circle Lab is an international development programme for feature-length fiction, documentary and animated films. It offers filmmakers and producers individual mentoring, support with screenplay development, production and financing strategies, and opportunities to meet potential co-producers, financiers and other industry professionals. It is organised by Tatino Films with the support of Alca Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Hessen Film & Medien.
