Vesna award for special achievements at this year’s Festival of Slovenian film went to Martin Turk’s feature film, A Good Day’s Work.
The film was presented in the festival’s section of international co-productions. The Jury wrote the following explanation for their decision:
“With a hint of Italian neorealism, the film paints the everyday life of a young Bosnian family in distress, and of a father who seeks work but only finds it as he ends up in jail. In our corrupt world, this
universal story of a socially vulnerable family, the father unemployed and too honest to be able to accede to corruption even at the cost of survival, is very much topical around the globe. With his sensitive and precise direction, and leading an excellent international cast and crew, the director has created a compassionate film of tender emotions and high moral standing.”
A Good Day’s Work premiered at the last year’s Sarajevo Film Festival and had its international premiere at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. The film continues its festival journey at Hamburg Filmfest in Germany, where it will screen in the competition section Kaleidoscope, which focuses on films from all over the world, of different cinematic identities, languages and narratives. A Good Day’s Work was also screen at 35th edition of Alexandria International Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries in Egypt, organised by the Egyptian Association of Film Writers and Critics.
A Good Day’s Work is coming to Slovenian cinemas on November 6th.
The social drama coproduced by Bosnia and Hercegovina, Turkey and Slovenia (Bela film) is a story about Armin (Aleksandar Seksan), a caring father and husband, looking for a job. In 2017, the film won production funds in the framework of Sarajevo – City of Global Screen initiative, by which Sarajevo Film Festival funds micro-budget films from the region.
