The Slovenian Cinematheque will present the first comprehensive retrospective of director Maja Weiss’s work from 13 March to 6 May 2025. Maja Weiss 60! will take audiences through her fiction films and documentaries, which often give attention to people and stories that are overlooked. Maja Weiss co-founded Bela Film with Ida Weiss in 1998. The company is also a partner in the retrospective. kinoteka.si
The programme includes Guardian of the Frontier (2002), produced by Bela Film. It was the first Slovenian feature film made for cinemas to be directed by a woman. The screening will take place on 13 April 2025. kinoteka.si
Bela Film’s production history began with Weiss’s documentary Road of Brotherhood and Unity. Later collaborations include the fiction feature Installation of Love, the short fiction film Child in Time, and the documentaries Europe’s Old New Faces, Dar Fur – War for Water, Where Has the Working Class Gone?, Boy, Bloodbrother of Death 2 and Snatched from the Source – Slovenian Children of Lebensborn.
