In late August 2025, director Maja Weiss shot the short fiction film The Hanging Bridge in Goriška Brda, Gorizia, Nova Gorica and Solkan. Produced by Bela Film, it tells the story of a Slovenian-Italian family divided by the border drawn in 1947. Decades later, two young relatives try to bring the family back together.
Martina from Gorizia and Mark from Ljubljana meet through social media and discover that they are related. They arrange a family gathering where long-buried memories come to light. The film explores the history of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, questions of belonging, a family divided and the possibility of reconciliation.
The screenplay was written by Maja Weiss and Nataša Konc Lorenzutti. The cast includes Boris Cavazza, Lučka Počkaj, Lara Komar, Aleksander Cavazza and Giada Fantoma. Ida Weiss is the producer. The film is supported by the Slovenian Film Centre and Viba Film Studio.
