21 Sep “AROUND THE CORNER” SUCCESSFUL FESTIVAL JOURNEY CONTINUES IN UPPSALA
The film by director and screenwriter Martin Turk will compete for the Best Children Film Award at one of the most prominent short film festivals in the world, the 42nd Uppsala Short Film Festival in Sweden. So far, the film has been presented at more than 25 international festivals and received a Special jury award at the Budapest Movie Awards and a Special jury award at the 28th International Children’s Film Festival La Matatena A.C. in Mexico.
“Around The Corner” follows eleven-year-old Nejc, who witnesses teenage bullying. He befriends Timi, the victim of violence. But it turns out that Timi is not the only victim of this story. The film, which is partly based on the personal experiences of director and screenwriter Martin Turk, emphasizes the importance of compassion and support in the world of children and sheds light on the role of (un)present adults. “After my son had a fight at school I found myself in the situation of how to react. I didn’t know what really happened between the two boys and who was right. In the complexity of the children’s world, there is a variety of truths and I wanted to see the situation as honest as possible from the perspective of a child. This situation eventually led me to make the short film Around The Corner.,'” says Turk.
In just over a year, the film has already been presented at more than 25 international festivals on various continents, including Poland, Norway, Croatia, Brazil, Macedonia, the United States, Belgium, Canada, Northern Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, and Mexico. In October, it will travel to France for the Festival International du Film de Nancy, and in November to Greece for the Athens International Children’s Film Festival and to Germany for the Braunschweig Film Festival. The highlight of this autumn will undoubtedly be the film’s appearance at the 42nd Uppsala Short Film Festival in Sweden, which is accredited by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars), as well as the European Film Academy and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
