Blue Velvet Revisited and No Frank in Lumberton share 11th place in The Guardian’s ranking.
Compiled by film critic Ryan Gilbey, the list presents a critical selection of twenty documentaries that take viewers behind the scenes of filmmaking.
The Guardian is a respected British newspaper, founded in 1821, with an online readership spanning the globe. Inclusion in its selection is an important critical recognition for the film and an opportunity for new audiences to discover it.
Directed by Peter Braatz, the documentary was produced by Taris Film in co-production with Bela Film, with Ida Weiss as co-producer. In 1985, Braatz documented the making of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, collecting Super 8 footage, photographs and sound recordings. Three decades later, he transformed this material into a personal and poetic cinematic journey into Lynch’s creative world. The music was contributed by Tuxedomoon, Cult With No Name and John Foxx.
We are delighted that, ten years after its completion, the film continues to attract attention and connect with new generations of film lovers.
